The September 16, 2006 meeting was held at the Food Court at the Newton Factory Outlet Mall. The meeting was called to order at 9:05am by President Dan Inskeep. Present were Fred Becker, Lon Buller, David Duerksen, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Kent Harder, Mike Harvey, Dan Inskeep, Sean Kelly, Bob Ogden, and Kent Stutzman.
Minutes: The August Minutes were accepted without corrections.
Treasurer's Report: No change. Total of $418.69 in checking and $105 in petty cash, totaling $523.69 in club funds.
MCC Bike Ride: The bike ride is going on right now, it started at the MCC Center in North Newton, with an 8 mile track to the first SAG at the Burger King at the Newton Factory Outlet Mall, a 35 mile trek going West and North through Hesston, and 45 and 65 mile treks going through Valley Center and Sedgwick, with the 65 also going through Hesston, with all except the 8 mile ending up back at the starting location. Roger and some club members are helping, and others may help after the meeting.
EOC Project: Dan and Roger installed some new coax and got the HF station working on all bands except 80m needs to be tuned better.
Camp Hawk: No updates on the Camp Hawk tower. The tower climbing hasn't happened yet and as far as we know power hasn't been trenched in to the tower yet.
440 Repeater: Mike said the 440 repeater is basically ready to go once the 61 location is vacated.
COW Trailers: Lon Buller talked about the Communications On Wheels (COW) vehicles; there are currently two trailers, one in Salina, one in Wichita. Each has 4 VHF radios, 4 UHF radios, and various other radios for linking between agencies. Two of the radios are dual-band HAM Radios. They have a built-in antenna tower that can be raised up to 103'. Lon also talked about coordinating the Kansas Counties into 7 sections, one section being Kansas City area, and the rest of the state split into 6 approximately equal sized sections, with each county having representation. Lon will try to arrange a time when he can bring one of the COWs to Newton so we and the other emergency agencies can see and learn about it.
Emergency Certification: If we haven't done the IS-100 and M-700 emergency certification courses, Lon would encourage us to do so if at all possible. It's not currently required and in the event of mobilization it is unlikely they will reject people who don't have certification, but it is highly encouraged and Lon can't guarantee it won't become a requirement in the future.
Antenna: Mike Harvey passed around a 6m omni-directional circular antenna he built for about $25. $12 for a piece of aluminum strap, plus a PVC tube, some brackets, a couple spacers, and the coax connector.
Moving: Sean Kelly announced he's moving to Dallas, Texas, so this is his last meeting. Goodbye's and Best Wishes were exchanged.
Meeting adjourned at 9:54am.
