The October 17th  2017  meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library.  Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by President Jerry Williams.

Present were Charles K0HNC,  Jeanne  KS0JG,  Jerry KD0LWX,   Dave WX0DH,  Kent Price KE0NJP and Tony  KS0TAD.

Minutes were read by Secretary/Treasurer Charles Meisinger.  Jeanne  moved and Tony seconded to approve the minutes as read.

Treasurer’s report was read by Secretary/Treasurer Charles Meisinger.  Jeanne  moved and Tony seconded to approve.

Charles reported on the Heartland 100, a 100 mile run at Cassoday, that was Oct 14th and 15th.  The weather was warm and windy during the day Saturday, but cold front and strong north winds and rain came through Sat. evening.   68 runners started the run.  38 dropped out, which was a higher percentage than in previous years and was probably due to the weather.  A Google spreadsheet that was shared over the internet was used to display runner numbers and arrival and departure times at each aid station.  This worked well where there was adequate cell signal strength to get an internet connection.  Stations without cell service called in numbers and times by radio.

Jerry will attend the Nov planning meeting for the 2018 Chisholm Trail bike ride.  They meet on the 2nd Tuesday at 16:00 at the Bread Basket restaurant.

The Christmas breakfast, in lieu of the December meeting, will tentatively be Dec 9th at Water’s Edge in Hesston.

Tony has 5 more shifts to work before he retires and Dave is retiring on May 30 after 30 years at WSU.

Dave said he will work up a presentation on NVIS for next  year in June or July.

Tony got a Gap Titan multiband vertical antenna and is getting it tuned up.  Dave moved and Kent seconded to adjourn at 7:24.
