Newton, KS

The October 21, 2014 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library. Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by President Dave Hughes.

In attendance: Dave WX0DH, Jeanne KS0JG, Russell WX0RG, Jed KD0JCG, Stan WD0EUF, Charles K0HNC, Dan K0FNI, John KR0L, Greg KD0QNF, and Jerry KD0LWX.

Russell moved and Dan seconded to approved minutes as published in the website.

Treasurer’s report Checking $1,375.04 Petty cash $36.00 Greg moved and Jerry seconded to approved the treasurer's report.


Ultra Runners was October 11th and 12th, 2014. 45 runners in total. Thanks to Charles for scheduling, getting the hams lined up. 37 finished. No significant medical issues.

Falun Classic wais October 12th, 2014. 87 total riders. Excellent weather for ride. No mechanical problems. A portion of the riders didn’t have numbers due to the number of late entries.

VE session is scheduled October 25th at 9AM at Hillsboro City Hall.

Next Ham Field Day will be held in conjunction with Marion County Emergency Services At Marion Lake.

Skywarn Recognition date is still up in the air.

Holiday event decision will be made by Stan and Jeanne. We’ll look at reserving Water’s Edge at Hesston either on Dec. 6th or 13th.

Opening discussion for combining Sunday night net. The McPherson club has a directed net which is likely the format for the combined net. 8 pm on Sunday. Jeanne will send a list to Stan of suggested members. Jeanne will also announce the new format at the normal Newton Club Net time. Stan will have a notice that the McPherson Net will be moved to the other McPherson repeater.

Round Table:
John - lightening strike took out some of his equipment in August. And now is back on the air. Asked Stan if there’s still APRS in McPherson.
Jerry - played with Dodge City contacts and APRS. Dodge City is on the AT&T tower, west of town.
Stan - operated over the weekend, 4 or 5 different QSO parties, 20, 15, 17 and 10 meters all open.
Charles - worked the many QSO parties, sent note to Ron on Ultra Runners for his inputs and found that having someone at turnaround was good.
Jed - not much
Jeanne - usually junk
Russell - high noon net, went to a farm land auction and bought 40 acres.
Dan - 40 meter railroad net every Sunday, moved 2 meter rig out to the garage.
Greg - reupped to ARRL
Dave - got PSK working.
