The October 21, 2000 meeting was held at Spear's Restaurant in Newton. The meeting was called to order at 9:08am by President Ron Farthing.
Present were Ko Bartel, Fred Becker, Jeff Bitikofer, Ron Farthing, David Godshall, Adam Peters, John Ryding, Kent Stutzman, Roger Wilson, and Dr. J. J. Wilson.
September minutes were read without correction.
Treasurer's: No change to the current checking account balance: $775.09.
Repeater: Working fine, still kerchunking occasionally. Ron suggested with the other repeaters around and the amount of funds we have available, we hold off spending a lot of time and money on a backup repeater, however it might be worth having Chance or a tech Ron knows look at the old repeater to give us an idea what it would cost to fix it.
Valley Center Hamfest: They thought it went very well considering it was the first one and there were few commercial vendors. They are planning on doing it again next year. Roger Wilson suggested adding some forums, but Ron said there was no access to meeting rooms at the facility.
Skywarn: Some time ago the Weather Service purchased some beam antennas and rotors for the base station in Wichita. Someone in the bureaucracy made a decision that they could not be mounted on the existing tower, so a new tower needs to be installed. The new tower is ready to go up, but is pending FAA approval and some bureaucratic red tape.
Mobile Antenna: Ron said he might be able to get a mobile tower donated to Lon Buller's Emergency Management. Kent will pass the information on to Lon. Web Site: "http://www.newtonarc.net". Kent looking for input and material for the web site. Secretary will send Kent (kb0rwi@kcable.com) club minutes and list of club E-Mail addresses.
Roger Wilson: Asked to provide Amateur Communications for Veterans Day Parade to help line up and coordinate the parade floats (30-35 floats). Roger is looking for several amateurs to help using talkies, starting 11-11:30am until soon after the parade starts at 1pm. Parade is Saturday, November 11th, at Elm and Main in Downtown Wichita.
Certification of Storm Spotters: Fred asked what the status was, and Ron said that process appears to be stuck at the moment. Will be accepting nominations for club officers at the November meeting.
Some discussion about the Sunday on-the-air meetings not happening recently. The times when the net did happen, check-ins were few and short.
Meeting adjourned 10:00am.
