The November 15th 2016 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library. Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by President Jeanne Groves.

Present were Charles K0HNC, Jed KD0JCG, Jeanne KS0JG, Dave WX0DH, Russell WX0RG, Harold WS0M

Minutes and Treasurers report were read by Sec/Treasurer Charles Meisinger. Dave moved and Russell seconded to approve both as read.

Russell said that there may not be a Skywarn recognition day this year due to Chance’s family illness.

Russell saw Phil NY0T in McPherson. He is in a wheel chair and has pins in his pelvis and will have physical therapy. Stan and Jeremy fixed his HF antenna so he can get back on the air.

Russell said that Richard cancelled the McPherson club meeting at the mobile home park because of his wife’s health issues.

Jeanne that they have some old equipment from Dan’s garage that she would like to take to the sidewalk sale at Radio Shack in Derby.

A new club web site was discussed. Jeanne will look into using Wordpress for a new web site. Jeanne said that the club email listserv needs to be updated.

Ideas for new club projects were discussed. Dave suggested an antenna day, Russell suggested having Dan show how he built his fractal antenna. Participation in Newton or McPherson emergency preparedness days similar the one in Hillsboro was discussed. Russell suggested seeing about an overall structure for small radio clubs in the area. Dave suggested a program to explain what amateur radio has to offer and also have someone from Bethel or Hillsboro to talk about missionaries using amateur radio. ARRL has canned programs that could be used.

Russell said that hospitals may be looking for alternate means of communications and that we should check with local hospitals about it.

Russell and Dave agreed to meet to talk about possible programs.

Discussed having a testing session if any club members that want to upgrade.

Harold said he might be interested in joining the club and that he was having trouble with the staff about setting up a rig in the retirement home.

Russell moved and Dave seconded to adjourn at 7:40.
