Newton, KS







The November 15, 2011 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library. In attendance were Joe Brazell, Greg Brazell, Aaron Diller, Jeanne Groves, Russell Groves, David Hughes, Dan Inskeep, Don Mashburn, Charles Meisinger, Steve Pope, Stan Stephenson, Kent Stutzman, Jerry Williams.

Meeting convened at 7:10PM

Kent read minutes. Dan moved to accept, Jerry 2nd, approved unanimously.

Dan Inskeep mentioned that Priscilla Harder was featured on page 13 of the December 2011 QST. She is the Clubs youngest member and her call is KD0PLJ. Kent went home and wrote to permission@arrl.org and had a reply from Maty Weinberg to use the picture and surrounding comments on the Club's web page as detailed in my request.

Kent will send a letter to all Club members to make a special invitation to the December 20 meeting for Club officer nominations and voting. After that, the Club needs to beging to work on the first amendments to the Bylaws since 1992.

In January, the Club is planning to hold a testing session. We will need to know how many VE's and at what levels we have in the Club. IIt is believed we presently have 4 Extra Class licensed VEs , two General's.

January 21 is the first planned test session and We will use the ARRL test pool. Jeane made a motion, Joe 2nd, unamimously passed.

Sun spot activity is fairly high making the upper bands particularly great to work 20m and up. There are sporadic but long 6m openings.

Russell will be willing to be President
John expressed interest in retaining VP
Kent expressed interest in retain Sec/Treasurer

Jeanne nominate, Dan 2nd, and it was unanimously past to keep the present board. We will take nominations at the December meeting.

Charles noted 34 Kansas stations tied fo 11th during Field Day..

December 3 was Skywarn Appreciation Day at the NWS. It was attended well around lunch time, and a number of people did visit throughout the day.


Financial Status of the Club
Petty Cash: $44.12, Checking: $774.42, $5 outstanding for the Library projector.
New student dues: Steve Pope joined the ARRL through the Club $15
