The November 17, 2007 meeting was held in the Newton Public Library. The meeting was called to order at 9:18am by Secretary/Treasurer David Godshall. Present were David Duerksen, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Kent Harder, Marion Harper, Dan Inskeep, Bob Ogden, and Kent Stutzman.
Minutes: The October Minutes were read and approved.
Treasurer's Report: $237.13 in checking, $40 in petty cash, total $287.13.
Memberships: Club memberships are coming due at the end of 2007 so the Secretary handed out new membership renewal forms.
Jamboree: Due to a tent malfunction, they didn't stay until Sunday as originally planned. The wind kept picking up and started breaking tents, so they tore down and left around 4pm. Boy scout tents were breaking as well.
Hesston Tornado: Kent Stutzman met with Lon last Monday to talk about the Hesston Tornado, and he also talked with John Waltner, who was excited about the project. He is unable to get the Dean Alison video because those rights were sold to National Geographic a while back.
Field Day: We came in first in our division nationally, and the Wichita club came in first in their division nationally. Kansas is ideal for HAM Radio, both by geographic location and the ground has great conductivity.
Frequency measuring test: Dan participated in this recently, they send out a frequency on HF and people have to try to determine the exact frequency. He thinks this might be a good club activity next year.
Parade of Lights: December 6, Kent Stutzman is heading it up, and Lon would like to be involved this year as well as having a debriefing afterwards to use this as training for emergency management. Show up at 5:30pm to help.
RACES Net: Kent hasn't had one in a couple weeks, and Lon wants it to get active again and start having training exercises. Dan suggested coming up with specific activities for each meeting to make it more interesting than just check in and out and that's it. As an example, do a distance/coverage test.
Repeater: The 440 repeater needs to be put in the old repeater location at the mill, however due to a recent accident the mill owners are very reluctant to give us permission to access the mill roof or even the lower repeater cabinet without their approval and without perfect weather. So it may be difficult to gain access.
Repeater Insurance: The Secretary/Treasurer will look into what the club needs to do to have the new repeater insured.
Club callsign: The N0NK callsign expired a few months ago but Mike Harvey has now renewed it. Bob mentioned two callsigns he had registered that have also expired: KC0APK (Sedgwick County Kansas ARES) and KC0APL (Harvey County Kansas ARES). He could still renew them if there is interest in retaining them.
Sweepstakes: Bob participated in the CW sweepstakes a couple weeks ago, and it went very well with many people including Bob making clean sweeps. West Texas was the hardest this year because the primary operation from that region had had a heart attack. The Phone Sweepstakes is this weekend, there will be several college students coming out to operate, in addition to Bob and David.
Election: Mike is working Saturday's for the foreseeable future and has asked not to be considered for President, however he will continue to run the IRLP station. Aaron also E-Mailed and apologized that he has had to skip more meetings than he expected, due to work. Dan volunteered to be nominated for Vice-President. David was re-nominated as Secretary/Treasurer, and Kent Stutzman was nominated to be Vice-President. Bob offered appreciation to all the volunteers. Lee Buller was also nominated for President.
