The November 16, 2002 meeting was held at Red Coach Restaurant in Newton. The meeting was called to order at 9:08am by President Kent Harder. Members present were Ko Bartel, Fred Becker, Jeff Bitikofer, Lon Buller, David Duerksen, Ron Farthing, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Kent and Dana Harder, Mike Harvey, Roger Jost, Robin McDaniel, Kent Stutzman, and Roger and Dr. J.J. Wilson, and guests Phil Morgan and Bob Ogden.
The November minutes were read by the Secretary/Treasurer with one correction: The Festival of Lights Parade is December 5, which is a Thursday rather than a Tuesday.
Treasurer's Report: No change to the finances, leaving a checking account balance of $592.23, plus $120.00 in petty cash, for a total balance of $712.23.
Field Day: It has been reserved, will still need to pay the $50 fee and get permission to stay overnight.
Festival of Light Parade: Roger Wilson lost the list he made at the last meeting and made a new list of volunteers to help with the parade communications. Will meet at 7th & Main between 5:30pm and 6pm on Thursday, December 5th. There will be four Chamber staff we will be covering. Once the parade starts, our duties will be over.
Jamboree: Roger Jost thanked those who came out and helped with the Jamboree.
State Report: Question about who to designate as the club's Registered Office/Agent. The secretary will either use his own address or the Trustee's address, to be decided after the meeting.
EchoStation: Michael Harvey has done some additional investigation a couple programs: EchoStation allows a computer to make announcements on the repeater, such as a voice id, repeating announcements, Newsline, etc. Newsline can be downloaded in MP3 format and is about 25 minutes in length. Kent Stutzman has software if we decide to reduce the size, split it up, or insert the repeater's ID or local announcements. There was universal agreement that airing Newsline would be beneficial, and the length was not seen as much of a problem. Some discussion about the .82 repeater's current problems -- .82 used to air Newsline years ago. The club will purchase a copy of the $19.95 software.
EchoLink links two computers and repeaters through the Internet to allow users of repeaters in different areas around the world to communicate with each other. Some discussion about possibilities of using EchoLink to help the National Weather Service if there are problems communicating with remote repeater areas.
Trustee: Bob Harder is the current trustee of the 146.61 repeater and the W0BZN/N0NK callsigns. He brought up the question of whether he is the still the best person to be the trustee, given that he does not monitor the 61 repeater on a regular basis. If some of the other club's Extra operators would like to take over the role of trustee, he would welcome the change. Michael Harvey volunteered to take over. Roger Wilson moved, and Ko seconded, that we accept Bob Harder's resignation. The motion was passed with one nay. A motion was then made by Roger Wilson, seconded by Lon Buller, that Michael Harvey, AB0TX, become the new trustee of the repeater and club callsigns.
Nomination: Dave Duerksen nominated the three current officers for their current positions: Kent Harder for President, Kent Stutzman for Vice-President, David Godshall for Secretary/Treasurer.
Guests: Kent Harder extended a welcome to Bob Ogden and Phil Morgen!
