The May 21, 2005 meeting was held at Red Coach Restaurant in Newton. The meeting was called to order at 9:10am by President Kent Harder. Present were Ko Bartel, Lon Buller, David Duerksen, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Kent Harder, Marion Harper, Dan Inskeep, Ken and Renae Lundgren, Robin McDaniel, Bob Ogden, Kent Stutzman, and Roger Wilson.

Kansas Sampler Festival: Roger thanked everyone who helped with the festival communications.

Minutes: April Minutes were accepted with no corrections.

New Meeting Location: Starting next meeting we will meet at the old food court at the Newton Outlet Mall.

Treasurer's Report: No official report; there was a $26.56 debit for the purchase of a fan for the repeater cabinet.

Repeater work: Cleaned up the audio pots in the controller and radio, turned up the audio on the controller. Purchased a cooling fan for the cabinet but haven't installed it yet.

Field Day: June 25-26 at Stutzman Retreat Center. Bob confirmed that Stutzman Retreat Center will be available starting Friday. There was a question about whether beer would be allowed, and the answer was that the location has a no alcohol regulation.

Severe Weather: A recent RACES activation had a larger number of checkins than normal, so Lon was happy to see that.

Marion Ford: Marion Harper talked about Marion Ford, a club member who passed away about a year ago. Marion Ford's son Bob Ford passed most of Marion's HAM equipment on to Marion Harper with the instructions that the equipment be given to the Newton Amateur Radio Club for us to distribute as appropriate. Bob Ford mentioned Bob Harder's radio class as being a possible use for some of this equipment, and he showed an interest in giving the equipment for free to new amateurs who have a need for equipment. Marion Harper noted how Marion was always giving equipment to new hams and was very supportive of new hams. Kent Stutzman recommended that if the club keep any of the radios, the club attach a plaque commemorating Marion Ford for his long service to the HAM Radio community. Roger Wilson suggested that in a year or so Marion's K0YWT callsign will become available, and if Marion's son is agreeable to the idea, the club could apply for the callsign and rename the W0BZN repeater as the Memorial K0YWT repeater. If the club sells any of the equipment, as opposed to giving it away, Bob Ford suggested the club could keep half the money and the other half could go to Bob or his sisters.

K0S Strange Antenna Challenge: There will be special event stations where the goal is to try to "load" all sorts of strange objects and using them as antennas. Kent Harder was wondering if any club members would be interested in trying to do this?

Emergency Ready Kit: Kent Stutzman brought his "go kit" to show the club. He has also applied for the position of ARES coordinator for Harvey and Sedgwick counties since Allen Heck, the current coordinator, appears to be no longer active in his position. Kent is starting an ARES website for this area, the address will be www.cenkares.org

The Dayton Hamvention is going on right now.

Meeting adjourned at 10:06am.
