The May 15, 2004 meeting was held at Red Coach Restaurant in Newton. The meeting was called to order at 9:15am by President Kent Harder. Present were Fred Becker, Lon Buller, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Kent Harder, Robin McDaniel, Kent Stutzman, Melanie Triantis, Roger Wilson.

Minutes: The April Minutes were read with one correction; the website for Newsline is http://www.arnewsline.org rather than .com.

Kansas Sampler Festival: Roger Wilson reported everyone he talked to was "pickled tink" about amateur involvement in the festival. He didn't have official numbers, but there were probably about 8000 attendees. Some items mentioned for next year: Kent Harder remarked that we forgot to put up our banner, also wondered about the club having a booth at next year's festival and doing Radiograms for the public, etc.
Roger affirmed that idea but pointed out that having a booth would probably cost over a hundred dollars.

Antenna Design Programs: Kent Harder is looking for an antenna design program. If he had internet access
he could download some from the Internet. As it is, he'll probably get someone to download some for him.

Field Day: June 26 A&27. We will do it at the Stutzman Retreat Center west of Hesston and will operate as 3A. Officially starts at 1pm Saturday, June 26. Setup will start 1pm Friday. All antennas have to be within 1000 feet diameter. The GOTA station would run using a different callsign, can make up to 400 contacts. Can also have a 50MHz and up station without counting against our classification. Possible bonuses: Emergency power, Media publicity, Public Location, Public Information Table, Initiating NTS traffic to section manager, handling NTS messagers, One Satellite QSO, Minimum of 5 QSO's using renewable energy (solar, wind, water power), W1AW bulletin, Non©traditional mode demo (ATV, SSTV, not PSK31), Official Representative, Emergency Agency, and GOTA station with 100 contacts. Bob and Mike will operate the heavy©duty CW station. Will also plan to have one heavy©duty SSB station, and one SSB station that would be less intense, and the GOTA station. Question about whether to use N0NK or N0HC for the callsign; N0NK would be shorter in CQ so it will be used for the main callsign, and N0HC is easier phonetically so it will be used for the GOTA station. Will plan on at least one official meal, probably Saturday evening, with the club paying for at least part of it.

RACES Activation: There were about 16 to 17 stations on the recent weather activation several days ago, but only about 7©8 were official RACES members. There was concern about allowing non©RACES members to participate in an activation, not knowing if they'd had any weather spotting training.

Hawaii Trips: Bob and Lorna Harder are leaving for their Hawaii trip Tuesday, May 15, getting in 1am
Kansas time. Nelson Kilmer will try to make a contact to Bob at 2am, and then again the next two days if no contact is made, to complete the WAS award, before he and his wife go to Hawaii also to join Bob and Lorna on vacation.

Club Website: Kent Stutzman has posted most of the pictures he's received over the years for various ham
radio events on the club's website, http://www.newtonarc.net/

Special Events Station: Roger mentioned some special events activities he's been involved with in the past and was wondering if the club would be interested in looking into doing something like that. Possibilities might include Coronado Heights, something to celebrate Lewis & Clark's Expedition 200th year celebration, etc.

Meeting adjourned at 10:16am
