All licensed operators welcome on the 146.61- repeater. Newton, KS
The March 21st 2017 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library. Meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM by President Jerry Williams.

Present were Charles K0HNC, Jeanne KS0JG, Jerry KD0LWX, Greg KD0QNF, Joe KD0QNG, Kent KB0RWI and Terrence K5TBO.

Minutes were read by Secretary/Treasurer Charles Meisinger. Jeanne moved and Greg seconded to approve the minutes as read.

Treasurers report was read by Secretary/Treasurer Charles Meisinger. Jeanne moved and Jerry seconded to approve.

Jerry gave an update on the Chisholm Trail bike ride. It will be on May 6th at Athletic Park in Newton. Setup is at 07:00 and will use the 61 repeater. The route is changed this year because of construction on Ridge Road north of 12th street. This will add another 10 miles to the route and may require another SAG stop. SAG 1 will be at old 81 and 125th in Sedgwick, SAG 2 will be on Ridge Road ¼ mile north of Hwy 50, SAG 3 will be at King Park in Hesston and an operator with an HT will ride in a pickup as a rover. The organizers would like to have a vehicle with a light bar, similar the the one we used last year.

The Chisholm Trail 150th anniversary special event is April 25th through 30th. Stan WD0EUF is the contact person. He will have a 10/20/40 meter antenna set up at the old depot in Abilene. Operators should bring their own equipment. He still needs operators for the 28th and 30th.

The Heartland 50 mile run at Cassoday is the 29th of April. Russell has operators for this event.

Jeanne said that the Emporia club will have a testing session April 22. Since they are having a testing session just before the Chisholm Trail event, we won’t have one during the event. They are also looking for operators for the Dirty Kanza 200 mile 24 hour bike ride on June 3rd.

Kent recommended using MailChimp for email and InMotion web hosting service for $10.95 per month if prepaid for 2 years. It does not provide email. It was agreed to discuss the web hosting issue later when more members were present. Jeanne will set up MailChimp.

A visitor, Terrence Laurendine K5TBO was present. Everyone in turn introduced themselves to him. He is from the Wichita Amateur Radio Club and had several announcements about activities of the their club. There will be a Wichita area field day meeting next Sat 25 Mar to help area hams who want to participate. They need a Field Day logger for Coy Terry W0ZWS, a blind CW operator.

They offer license testing using Laurel VEC testing at no charge. It is held at the Red Cross on East Douglas on the 2nd Fri evening of every even month at 6:00 PM.

The Ground Grid newsletter started publishing again last Dec. They are looking for local club activities to include. The address is grid@warc.org.

They host a ham luncheon at Ourr’s Family Dining at 1606 S Georgetown on the 2nd Sat at noon.

There is a ladies net on Kan-Okla at 20:00 on Tues night.

They are running a Special Event station, K0S, on Aug 21 in Atchinson for the total solar eclipse. KB0KFH is the coordinator. Atchinson is in the total eclipse path.

Greg moved and Joe seconded to adjourn at 20:40.
