The March 20,2012 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met at the Newton Public Library in the Board Room in the basement. In attendance were Fred Becker, Greg Brazell, Joe Brazell, John Goerzen, Jeanne Groves, Russell Groves, Marion Harper, Bob Harder, Dave Hughes, Dan Inskeep, Charles Meiesinger, Joe Palmer and Kent Stutzman.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00PM

Dan gave a presentation /explanation of antenna design and theory. Which antenna to use for DX and which antenna works best for domestic contacts. He had a bag of different types of coax, with different shieding, braid thickness and ladder line. Gave a good explanation of how a wave forms off of a driven element. Closed loop antennas do not short, etc. He mentioned that any antenna articles or books written by Layfield Lamb, W4NL; would be good resources as Layfield has built antennas for most anything.

What is a parasitic envelope? Explained the velocity factor in coax. Verticals work best for DX and dipoles work for domestic contacts.

Bob harder then got up and showed his dipole box made out of a wall plug box. The design was first made by Nelson Kilmer, N0LRA.

At 8:15, the meeting turned to business. The topic of the consent agenda was brought up. Kent sent out the minutes with the reminder of the meeting, taking less time at the meeting.

Consent agenda was brought to forward for a vote with Jeanne making a motion and John 2nd, and it passed unanimously.

Field Day: The McPherson Club has voted to return the favor and join the Newton Club at Stutzman's for Field Day. Bob may not be there so other college faculty would be on hand to oversee the retreat due to the private nature of the retreat and its purpose for Hesston College. If there is no one available, there will be another place chosen.

Repeater: Dan has ordered the book from MMC and is awaiting it for the connection of the tone board. John reprogrammed the controller so that Kent can run Newsline for 10 minute segments. There is interest from hams in Wichita in listening and some of the Club members when they remember.

Club License: Kent got the mail and switched the box to his name from David's when he paid box rent for 2012. Rent was $44. Dan is trustee for W0BZN and Charles will be trustee for N0NK.

Peace Connections is having a bike ride April 21 staarting at First Mennonite Church with 60, 30 and 10 mile routes. John is checking to see if they need help or have an idea of what they need for the ride. No SAGS were shown on the maps available at cookiesride.org.

There was a motion for the April meeting to be at Marion Harpers and there will be antena building. to have the meeting there. John made the motion, Dave 2nd, and it was unanimously decided. Each person would build their own multi-band antenna and wind their own torroids.

Motion to adjourn was unanimous due to time

Meeting adjourned at 8:55PM
