The January 15, 2013 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library.In attendance were Greg Brazell, Joe Brazell, Lon Buller, John Goerzen, Jeanne Groves, Russell Groves, Jordan Henion, Bob Harder, David Hughes, Dan Inskeep, Charles Meisinger, Steve Pope, Stan Stephenson, Kent Stutzman, Jerry Williams.

Meeting was called to order at 7:02PM.

Kent S read the minutes. Greg made a motion, Jordan 2nd and minutes were accepted as read.

Justin took a picture of the antenna and it appears that there is a crack in one of the elements. We need to get a closer look at it.

Kent discussed the issues with the testing session being held on Feb 16, at 9:30AM as the Bessmer Room was booked for Library activities through April. The room was available for afternoons during that time and the testing session was moved to 1:30PM on the same date.Greg talked more about the Encampment. The size of the Encampment has grown from 5,000 to a possibility of 10,000-15,000. Encampment weekend is April 14.

Skywarn was mentioned and Jordan stated the talks were going to focus on cloud formations, what to look for; and the dangers posed by the public blocking roadways taking pictures. This hinders the real spotters from staying on a development of a storm and poses a risk to the public. Lon Mentioned the Storm Fury on the Plains presentations. The one for Harvey County will be held February 28 at Lindley Hall, 700 N. Poplar at 6:30PM. Lindley Hall is on the west side of Santa Fe Middle School and the entrance is off of Poplar.

The vote for 2013 officers was held with Kent retaining the Secretary/Treasurer position for another year, as the position was contested. The other officers were voted by majority for President and Vice President.

Justin is building a UHF system for Wichita and it will be put on one of the higher downtown buildings in Wichita. This should increase activity on K-Link from the Wichita metro area.

Stan is giving a talk to the McPherson Kiwanis Club on Ham Radio.

Bob wrote a program to score the Kansas QSO Party. There were 217 total logs turned in.

There was a motion for the Newton ARC to sponsor a plaque for 2012 and 2013. Motion to sponsor was brought by Dan, 2nd by Dave, and motion carried. The next motion was to sponsor the Kansas Mobile SSB. Dave made a motion, Jerry 2nd, motion carried.

Updated Club financial status: $1,352.76 in checking and $30.00 in petty cash.
