All licensed operators welcome on the 146.61- repeater.
Newton, KS

The January 17, 2012 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Bessmer Room of the Newton Public Library. In attendance were Lee Buller, Aaron Diller, Jeanne Groves, Russell Groves, Marion Harper, Bob Harder, David Hughes, Dan Inskeep, Don Mashburn, Charles Meiesinger, Steve Pope, Stan Stephenson, Kent Stutzman and Jerry Williams.

Meeting began at 7:20PM

Kent read minutes. Jeanne motioned, Jerry 2nd and the minutes were accepted as read.

Testing Session: Dan is holding the testing session on January 21. Russell and Jeanne were available for Technician testing. Phil, NY0T will be contacted for anyone testing for General or above. One more Extra is needed as there was interest in some setting for General.

Discussion was to approach Newton Medical Center and the Newton Emergency Ops Center for future test candidates. It is typical in other areas of the country for agencies to have their staff cross-trained and have licensed hams and even amateur stations in their facilities.

Dan discussed putting a copper or brass faraday cage over the repeater to keep the stray RFI in the building at Camp Hawk out. Dan, Charles and Kent have noted at different times, different frequencies causing the problems. There are railroad communications within 1/2 mile on 162 RR, and spurious RFI from 146.005 and 151.025. It seems over the month that Dan has found a solution as we have remained connected to K-Link almost full time since a few days after the meeting.

Stan, WD0EUF brought a solar panel along with several charge controllers power charge regulators as he has run his station off of battery power for some time. He runs the McPherson Co ARES net and people report how they are connected, either commercial or emergency power. Each panel can create 13.5v at low amps and can be hooked in parallel or series for more power capabilities.

Bob Harder passed out Kansas QSO Party awards to Dan, Lee, Charles and Kent. The award was a very nicely printed picture of Kansas scenery and had all of the 1x1 calls listed, along with a 5cent Amateur Radio Stamp from 1956.

Current Funds: $809.42 ; Petty Cash: $19:82
