The January 19, 2008 meeting was held in the Newton Public Library.  The meeting was called to order at 9:15am by President Dan Inskeep.  Present were Lon Buller, Tom Dhooge, David Duerksen, David Godshall, Marion Harper, Dan Inskeep, Bob Ogden, and Kent Stutzman.

Minutes: The December Minutes were read and approved.

Treasurer's Report: $392.13 in checking, $20 in petty cash, total $412.13.

Skywarn Recognition Day: The Wichita office made 104 total QSOs, 33 offices and 30 states.  The Wichita station was 18th in Weather Service contacts, 25th place in states contacted, and 39th in total QSOs.

Tax Exempt Status: Dan found that the 501(c)3 form for Ham Radio clubs is a whole different deal than what he was originally looking.  Once he gets the right form and checks what the fees will be, we can decide whether to
proceed.

ARRL Frequency Measuring Test: Dan participated in the recent November contest and came within 10 cycles of accurately measuring a test signal. Last year he came within one cycle.  He thinks this would be a good club
activity next year.

Possible Meeting Topics: Dan mentioned the idea of club members building an electronic project together for fun and to learn assembly tips.  He also called for other ideas for club projects, topics.

Sunspot Activity: We are currently at the bottom of the current sunspot cycle and it has now started going back up.

Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale: Will be April 11-12 this year.

Storm Fury on the Plains: The annual weather spotter's meeting will be Thursday, March 27, at the Chisholm Middle School in Newton.  Lon is very interested in local ham radio operators attending this meeting every year,
or at least attending every other year.  He also discussed weather spotting among other agencies he works with; police, fire stations, etc.

EOC: Dan reported that one of the three new radios in the EOC is not outputting very much power.  He will investigate the problem.

Repeater: Dan expressed concern that the repeater is rairly used and would like to see it used more.  Rairly does anyone come back to him when he give a call out on the radio at various times during the day.  Even with IRLP,
Kent noticed that it's hard to find people to talk to on the repeater.

Meeting adjourned at 10:12pm.
