The January 18, 2003 meeting was held at Red Coach Restaurant in Newton. The meeting was called to order at 9:15am by President Kent Harder. Members present were Ko Bartel, Lee Buller, Lon Buller, Gary Dix, David Duerksen, David Godshall, Kent Harder, Mike Harvey, Robin McDaniel, Phil Morgan, and Bob Ogden.
December Minutes were unavailable.
Weather: Lon Buller passed out information on the various National Weather Service safety presentations occurring around Kansas, so if we miss the Newton one on February 26 at the Chisolm Middle School, there are several dozen others to attend between February 18th and April 15th.
Lee Buller: Gave a presentation on an Elekraft K2 radio he built from a kit. It's a 9 band (160-10), CW/SB/TTY, single conversion radio with a 100 watt amplifier. Took 2 years to build (could be built in a month), had to wind about 40 toroids, solder hundreds of components, etc. Really enjoyed building it and it performs wonderfully; has worked over 100 contries, all 50 states, and numerous contests, both QRP and high power. He took the radio apart to show us the insides. Said this kit really rejuvinated his joy in Ham Radio.
Contests: North America QSO Party for SSB going on this weekend.
Computers: Allen Rickenberg asked for suggestions on a computer problem he was having with Outlook Express. Phil Morgan warned about problems many people, including himself, have had installing the Windows XP Service Pack 1. He had to reinstall Windows XP to get it working again, and is not sure that it's back to 100% yet.
Meeting adjourned 10:12am.
