Newton, KS

The February 19, 2013 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library. In attendance were Joe Brazell, Lon Buller, Aaron Diller, John Goerzen, Jeanne Groves, Russell Groves, Bob Harder, David Hughes, Charles Meisinger, Stan Stephenson, Kent Stutzman, and Jerry Williams.

Meeting was called to order at 7:02PM.

Kent S read the minutes. Lon made a motion. Aaron 2nd and minutes were accepted as read. Updated Club financial status: $1,383.76 in checking and $30.00 in petty cash. One check for $35 is outstanding.

Russell thanked Lon for the help the county gave in the tower climb and placement of the new DB-224 antenna for the Club on the tower on February 11. KaComm and the tower climbers also replaced the broken county antenna. Justin put in a new GE Mastr 65w PA and turned down to 50w output. He also turned off the preamp as there was still some stray RF that was getting in to the system. There is a 103.5PL on both receive/transmit. The repeater had been causing problems during the late night and early morning northern Kansas net with a carrier that Charles likened to AM interference. Russell suspects there may be a TV antenna pre-amp in the area that may be causing the noise. Aaron, Dave and others had ideas and all should monitor the repeater for continued RF interference. The repeater will be delinked from K-Link when there is RF noise going across the link system.

Russell asked Greg for any further information about the Encampment. Greg has been busy with other matters and has not talked to James, N5GUI about his plans for the Encampment. Russell got the contact information from Greg and will go forward in contacting James about what the Newton Club can offer. Skywarn could be one part of the information packet available as weather is also a Scout badge or area or interest for the Explorer groups.

Stan gave a talk to the McPherson Kiwanis Club in January. He has since been approached by two other organizations to give a presentation at their respective meetings. He thinks that Newton could find some local groups that would be interested in a presentation on emergency communications and other services that ham radio provides.

Bob passed around the wood plaques for the winners of the QSO Party. He also handed the Newton and McPherson Club their certificates for sponsorship of the plaques that they had selected. The Newton ARC sponsors the plaque for 2012 and 2013 for the Kansas Mobile SSB. Below is a likeness of the certificate for the sponsoring of the plaque.

Russell is looking for groups that the Club can reach out to and present a similar presentations. He is looking for missions type organizations where people would definitely need to have communications when they get to their area of service.

Jeanne made a motion to adjourn the meeting. John 2nd. Meeting Adjourned at 8:30PM.
