All licensed operators welcome on the 146.61- repeater.
Newton, KS

The February 21, 2012 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Board Room of the Newton Public Library. In attendance were Greg Brazell, Joe Brazell, Jeanne Groves, Russell Groves, Marion Harper, Bob Harder, David Hughes, Dan Inskeep, Charles Meiesinger, Stan Stephenson, Kent Stutzman and Jerry Williams.

Visitor from the K-Link system that John had talked to was Bert Voth, W0UTS

Meeting began at 7:05PM

Dan accepted, Charles 2nd, the minutes were accepted unanimously.

Russell and Dan went to the tower site. Due to numerous instances of stray RFI getting into the repeatewr and going out over K-Link. What they found was that all radios were grounded to their chassis, but the chassis were not grounded. They grounded the repeater, and proceeded to ground most of the systems in the building. This reduced the RFI a great deal.

We will  be toning the repeater as soon as Justin gets Dan a card to connect to the 61 controller.

Discussion of Emergency Operations within Newton Medical Center were discussed. Kent had gone out and approached someone and had not heard back in 7 months. Dan plans to go and try to get a meeting with the someone higher up to find out if there is a plan. Dan knows a few people and will work to get them licensed.

Russell and John are working with with the new Marion County Emergency Manager to let him know what hams were capable of doing.

McPherson is now working on an APRS system and hopes to have it on the air soon. This will start filling in the gaps to Salina. Several stories about APRS followed.

With three new hams and 5 new members in the room, John opened up the meeting for discussion. Many good ideas for future meetings:

Antenna building for new hams (a few long-time licensed ones) as well
HF Technologies
Meteor Scatter
Concepts of linear amplifiers
Traffic nets and traffic handling

Consent agenda – The minutes would be sent in the meeting notice and not read at the meeting to speed things up and give more time for the above ideas.

Bob talked up the QSO party and will be heading up the 2012 partty as Randy Wing is leaving the area for a job opportunity. Considering another word puzzle game and will use KANSAS again. The second word has not been decided.

Bob arrived a bit late but early enough to get in on the ideas for meetings. He has a powerpoint presentation on his shack and how simple antennas can beat big money stations. Kent has seen the presentation so he has to stop the minutes at this point.
