Newton, KS

The February 15, 2011 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met in the Bessmer Room of the Newton Public Library. In attendance were John Goerzen, Jeanne Groves, Russell Groves, Charles Meisinger, Joe Palmer, Kent Stutzman, Jerry Williams.

The Meeting was called to order by President Russell Groves at 7:15PM. Kent read the minutes. The minutes were approved.

Kent noted that the Club funds in checking acct to be $764.64, with $26.44 petty cash.

Old business:

Justin has all of the needed equipment for the Newton K-Link node except for a power supply.

Discussed needing more than one key to access the repeater box in the tower shack. Mike has assured the Officers that the battery is not requiring much maintenance and he will maintain the access to the cabinet while trustee. We have had few problems with the current set-up, and commend Mike on a well bult full-duty emergency power repeater.

Russell will work out the needed lease agreement for placement of a 440 K-Link repeaer on the Co-op Grain Elevator in Hillsboro. When Co-op realized the were providing a public service, and know the activities of Marion Reservoir, they are allowing acess for a very nominal price annually.

New business:

Discussion about future meeting topics and programs included:
  • MCC special event station
  • Antenna building
  • Contesting forum
  • How MDS integrates with EmComms
  • Stories about Greensburg
  • Lister diesel engines
  • Back-up power kits, solar arrays
Kent asked about contacting Bob about reserving Stutzman's for Field Day. Russell noted that if anyone visited, names could be taken for licensing class and helping to get study materials.

Russell is checking to see if one of the local on-air meteorologists that is licensed would do a program for the Club on how ham radio really works with storm reporting.

John mentioned how Kent was now incurring more debt than the Club dues by paying the domain names newtonarc.net and newtonarc.org for the Club. Kent has done so in lieu of dues by understanding made with past officers. A motion was brought, moved and seconded for Kent to re-imburse himself for amount of overpayment since 2001. Kent went through past minutes to 2001 and found where Club had made payments, and then stopped. After checking all figures, as prices increased for domain registration, adjustments were made and present out of pocket expenses were added, the check amount was for $28.70

March 3 at 6:30PM is the Storm Fury on the Plains Safety Presentation at the new location. Lindley Gym, 700 N. Poplar, Sante Fe Middle School.

March 15 is the next Club meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 8:35PM
