Newton, KS

The August 17, 2010 meeting of the Newton Amateur Radio Club met at the Newton Public Library in the Board room in the basement. In attendance were Aaron Diller, Jeanne Groves, Russell GTroves, Bob Harder, Dan Inskeep, Charles Meisinger, Justin Reed, Kent Stutzman, and Jerry Williams.

The Meeting was called to order at 7:15PM by President Mike Harvey.

Discussion again turned to getting the antennae off of the head house of the grain elevator. There is still a DB-408 standing. The bottom part of a 440 antenna is still inside the head house. Dan said he would work to coordinate getting access to the mill.

Treasurers Report: $584.64 with $30 petty cash

Justin has not had time this summer to work on the K-Link system at all this summer. He needs a tower climber to asssit in several installations.

Over the course of many months, the County Parks communications has been coming through the repeater very clearly. Don Gruver, Communications Director for Harvey County tested with 5 different radios and all caused bleed over to the 146.610 repeater. Don suggested that the Club get a pass-through filter or toning the machine to solve the problem. Typically it is the person at Camp Hawk that is the one being heard on the repeater, not the other parks personnel.

Kent has been contacted by Ken Janzen for communications assistance for the annual MCC Flatlander Bike Ride. The ride is Sep[tember 18 and starts from the MCC Center on NE 32nd St, N. Newton. Communications helpers are needed to be at the facility by 8:00and then start heading to the SAGs as soon as all riders have taken off. This year the routes head southwest with four different routes. There is an 8, 35, 45 and 65 mile ride. There are 6 SAGs. At least 6-8 volunteers will be needed to support the event.

Also, the Kansas QSO Party is being held the weekend of August 28 and 29. See for details.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15PM
